Seattle Vice

A piece I wrote on Rick Anderson’s book Seattle Vice went up on Seattlest today–I highly recommend it. Originally I had planned to get it out before Saturday’s reading, but I finished the review at one, before realizing that the reading was at the decidedly un-seedy-underbelly-esque hour of NOON. C’est la vie.

Apparently, there used to be 20-30 dives up and down First Avenue from Pioneer Square to Belltown–and one elected official, a fixture at my neighborhood’s J&M Cafe, once managed to do a drink-a-bar all the way up one side, and made it to Union down the other before puking all over the sidewalk. Ah, simpler times.
